It sounds like there wasn't a lot of sharing when both books were being written. If there is enough for a court case and the proof to back it up, so be it.
If not, if you have different points of view or at the least different material, then by all means publish. There are self publishing options that don't
cost you anything. I don't think the market for Sweet biographies is very high so there really isn't a lot of money to be lost. If you did it because
you love Sweet, then please share it with others who feel the same.

Yep, it's been publically known for years in the Sweet community that Mick was working on a book.
An official announcement was given December 23rd last year. And the topic/thread was "on" for months. ref.: http://thesweetglamforum.yuku.com/topic/4137

I don't believe this! Mr. Duthie is denying everything! I don't want to
repeat myself but I stand with every word in my statement above. What Mick might - or might not - have "cooked up" with our
mutual friend I don't know. As with most everything else in this matter I haven't been informed. Jan phoned me up one day - some three years ago -
among other things - shortly informing me that, as he understood things, Duthie was still working on material for our book. I told him that I was looking
forward to hearing from Mick some day soon then. I just never did. Judging from the quote of his, in your posting, it seems
you've let him believe that you had actually informed me of whichever decision you'd made.
As to whether our mutual venture was a suggestion of Jan's ... Mick, YOU approached me following a posting I
did - I believe - on this very forum! (I shall have to check my files). Why won't you stick to the truth?
Fact is that you were supposed to deliver your part of the material and NEVER did. In your latest posting here you say that at some point you decided, you felt that our styles were too far apart but you NEVER informed me! That at some point you decided to do this thing on your own but NEVER thought to inform me of this decision! You state that we exchanged a few things ... No, Mr. Duthie. YOU didn't share anything! All I ever saw of things you'd written was this "synopsis" of thing you intended to do - and frankly, it was here, there and everywhere. All over the place! Fact is that when we first corresponded YOU had nothing whereas I had an almost complete script! By letting me believe that you were actually going to honour our agreement you made sure that I wouldn't publish. Once again I have to point out that in my part of the world a "Gentlemen's Agreement" is just as binding as a written one. Fact is also that YOU haven't kept your end of our mutual agreement and trying to deny or explain away the obvious, demanding "written proof" and what have you, is nothing but a low attempt to manipulate your way out of this disgusting stunt of yours. You've taken my idea, my topic, my concept and maybe some of the my material (I don't know) and you've stolen my "momentum" and my "thunder" as I think the expressions are. Mick, I am the victim here so don't you act the martyr. Admit to what you've done AND then do the only decent thing! I've kept all our correspondance in a "log" file (I would be truly surprised if you haven't done the same thing) and I AM able to prove the actual events - but if you're suggesting we need to take this to court then by all means! I have a meeting with the lawyers the day after tomorrow anyway. I just hoped - and still hope - it didn't have to come to this as I would imagine such a thing could have an effect on your job. I think we are at a point where this should be continued in private between yourselves. This is a public forum and not to be used for accusations such as this.
I hope you both manage to settle this privately without recourse to any legal action, as we all know who ultimately wins them!

To my personal view as a fan, Pawl: why not? We are no judges nor lawyers. We are only Fans. We lived years waiting for this book and now it is there. Having
been written for the fans, it is meant to talk about. That's the point of any book about the band where we also have a homesite and MBs for.
We are just fans who talked about Steve's book, about Brian Manley's book, and we will talk about every book that was or will get written in the future, so also about this one.

Karsten: "What Mick might - or might not - have "cooked up" with our mutual friend I don't know. " (Quote, Karsten).
WTF are you implying, Karsten??? Have you lost your mind???
How the h... do you think you can drag my name into this crap?? Mick: Don't you EVER publish statements from me, emails or what-so-ever, written IN PRIVATE from me to you! Quoting a private email on a public forum without even letting me know beforehand, or indeed asking for my permission, as your "mutural friend", is simply un-acceptaple. Thank you! All: Since the two idiots have draged my name into this I might as well tell. Facts are that Karsten have been reseaching for HIS book since 1986. Though I have been in on-and-off close contact with him for 20 years, nothing ever materialised from his work, except a edited series of articles for the Scannie Sweet Fan Club. So when I learned from Mick Duthie that he also wanted to write what would be the ultimate Sweet "bible", I emmitiately acknowledged that he was in for a massive amount of work. Knowing Mick's proffesional duties my initial thought was: "Oh, another Kastern Boriths, here's looking at another 25 years of virtually nothing but good will!" And since Karsten clearly NEVER was going to finish his work (After 20+ years I would call that a reasonable conclusion) and with Mick having a strong will to have a go at the project, I suggested to Mick to get in contact with Karsten. Why? Because it was the only way I could see that a project like that would ever result in a product. Period. This must have been in 2004.....I guess. I don't keep a log-file of ancient emails... Mick was, as always, keeping busy doing other things, and so was I. A few months later I asked him about the proposed collaboration and Mick informed me that their individual ideas as to how the book should be composed was not in agreement and that the geographical distance was also a problem with Karsten being in Denmark and Mick....where-ever. This sounded reasonable. Never heard a thing since about this suggested collaboration. Jan Achmann Jan

Sorry, Jan! | #74 | ||

Jan: I wasn't trying to drag you or anyone else but Mick into this! So sorry! You and I have known each other
for more than 20 years and I wouldn't dream of p... on a friend! Your name ONLY came up because he was trying to explain away his
doings - among other things - by mentioning what he and you had been talking about. Anyway, it seems he has been lying to you as well (judging from the quote).
Mick and I HAVE been exchanging emails regarding this unfortunate situation. He's now trying to hide behind an attempt to put a lid on the thing, so the only thing left for me to do is disgussing the matter with the lawyers. I have a log and letters that prove me right! There is no talk about "sour grapes" here. Had Mr. Duthie been acting decently, I would be happy to applaud him on his book, but he didn't and I'm not going to take this lying down! I knew, when I was stirring up this hornet's nest, that I would be up against the fact that a lot of people out there have been waiting for a new Sweet book, and in their own juvenile way couldn't give a toss about the ugly situation behind it. I was also aware that Mr. Duthie is "everyone's darling" but this means a bl... lot to me, and must say, I'm very disappointed to see that "the Sweet society" seem more than willing to turn a blind eye to the whole situation. Have a nice day, Karsten Boriths |

No Karsten, they are not *more than willing to turn a blind eye to the whole situation*. What an unfair thing to point a finger to us fans, who ONLY WANT THE
PROMISED BOOK. I am sure that not óne of us here find this a nice situation. But what do you expect from us all right now? To take a side in a matter that is
completely unknown to us and actually, as far as the case is now, not even of our business?? Also saying that Mick is people's darling. Where do you get
that?
Put yourself in our shoes: We don't know what is right or not right here, we suddenly out of the blue get confrontated with a private matter of what we can't have a clue. We can't give the responses that you clearly want to hear, because we simply weren't there in this matter. If this "case" might turn out different, everyone here will know for their own what to do or not. And because you mentioned this all here, I as a fan who has to read this, have one question: you posted here more, why haven't you ever said something before then??. I mean, the publishing of the book has been discussed here for ages, Mick has been asked questions about the book and he talked about it. In all this time you could have discussed this with Mick personally. I only repeat, I hope things get solved for the both of you and that the credits go where it's due, no matter to whom of your both. Saying this, I am still not interfearing, I simply stand for the innocence of us fans in this matter.

KittyP1: I haven't said anything on this forum before because: 1/ ... I haven't really visited this forum for a long time 2/ ... Because it was part of our agreement not to discuss the book and the content on any web forum With regards to whether this is a private matter - it's NOT as Mr. Duthie has published and - among other things - rely on you people to purchase. Karsten ... I do not know you and have no wish to upset you but.....If you were indeed serious about publishing your book ( and by serious I mean within the
next two or three years ) then why haven't you visited this message board more often because this is where your market is . There are many Sweet fans
viewing this board and all have been desperate to read Micks book since first hearing about it . I understand that you are upset but it seems to me that you
have just " missed a trick " and have been too slow off the mark . To wait so long without correspondance from Mick seems a little naive and I
suggest that you have just been too busy being successful to give this project the time it needed . Write it off to experience mate and next time you come up
with an idea like this ... Get it done !!

Karsten, I just want to react a last time on your words:" this is not a private matter".
I'm sorry to say, but you are very wrong in saying this. This IS clearly a private matter. This is a typical "Civil Lawsuit" between two parties of which there are hundreds each day. I'm not going further about that, but that jurisdiction that counts everywhere. Every Lawyer will urgently advise you to not make such statements on a public messageboard before you can 100% prove this all. I understand you being upset if you are right, but if you are wrong I also understand Mick being upset because of what you said. And Karsten, it is really NOT a thing against you as a person, because if it would have happened the other way...it would be the same, because we dont do anything wrong! You can only ask us to react IF facts are proven. That's why I suggested you to sort it out with Mick first, as gentlemen, because, also for the Law, this IS a private matter.

I won't get involved in all of the legalities on this subject, that's between the parties who disagree with each other, It's getting a bit complex
and as Kitty has stated, we the Sweet fans don't know the half of it. We just want to read this book, end of.
Ultimately, the book needs to be published in the same way as Brian Manly's book. A copy to actually own. That day I look forward too greatly.
I get better and better looking every day...... I cant wait for tomorrow!!
