Well, we should know the 60 lucky invites in the next day or so. There were way more than 60 requests for invites so a draw will have to be made.
Other news? Well I was talking to Andy and he has a great idea. A while ago I asked whether he had plans to film the event and he has given it some thoughts and decided on a much better idea (in my opinion anyway). He wants to open the event to YOU and would like anyone coming the opportunity to bring along their own video cameras and video the gig. In exchange for this, he would then like access to anyone's video taken during the day/evening, so that a DVD of the day can then be made using all this video material. I really think this is an excellent idea and would make any DVD of the day a much more personal/fan DVD rather than the usual things we see. I don't think video cameras with any form of inbuilt or seperate video light be will acceptable for obvious reasons, but hopefully this will give everyone the opportunity to contribute their own material and we should get some interesting results/angles and shots. Maybe an idea would be to make a 'video diary' of the day so build up to the gig can also be included??

pmsl....go on ahead. That/s one of those cheesy things ya can't help but laugh at.

I'm all antsy over the draw lol, and yet at the same time don't expect to win anyway...kinda odd. I'm not fussed, either way there will be great company and great fun to be had by all.

I can't believe the Hat has a profile. I've now officially seen everything. :-)

(They honestly do! I'm normally scared of dogs, especially large ones - but these look friendly and cuddly!)

The idea that the fans can film the event sounds good. I don't think I'd like to be pointing a cam at the band for the duraion of the gig myself though. I did it with my friends band once and it was bloody hard work.

Fingers and toes crossed that I get an invite to the party, but if I don't, I'll still be there in Woodys bar before the gig to have a chat with anyone who will listen to me waffling on.

I do not agree. I had prefered a professional recording with great pic/sound of the gig instead. Maybe the Andy/the band don´t think it´s worth it?

Too many bootlegs around anyway!

I guess cost is a big issue and I think we all know a large production would be costly. However, if the sound was taken from the desk plus an audience mike was used (like Glitz Blitz live recording), that would sort out the sound. If you had two 'fixed' cameras (or more) on the band and stripped in fans footage within songs, I think it could work. It wouldn't win any Oscars but it would be a good enough to sell for £10-£15 and be a good record of the night -Bilston Birthday Blitz!!

I had assumed that the sound would be taken from the desk otherwise there would be all sorts of different sound qualities & feels to deal with and that would be truely awful!

One fixed camera to fill in the gaps where everyone else turns their cameras off at the same time is a good idea, and maybe someone with access to the stage area/wings (or, failing that, trained on Andy or Pete) with a second one running continuously might be a good idea too.

I'll need to find my video camera & dust it off now...

Fantastic! I've just bought a small digital video camera for the trip anyway, so I'm liking the chance to take some video at the show.

Eileen, your idea of having a camera fixed on Andy and/or Pete is a good one. And using the sound desk as the audio source is the only way to go. I've filmed a friend's band numerous times and the audio quality can vary greatly from one side of the stage to the other, as well as how far back in the venue you are.

All You'll Ever Get From Me

I've filmed several gigs at the Robin and the sound recorded through a camcorder is bad. The bass bounces off the walls and gives a muffled recording. The last one I did there I used the audio from the mixing desk and although It lacks crowd noise and is time consuming to sync the video and audio together,the overall result was far better. Its a pity that I cant be there for the gig, as I would have loved to have recorded the event. If anyone is short of a camcorder let me know and I'll send one with Dunc.

I guess Sherman & Eileen know what they are talking about here. So I hope -those ideas- can be forwarded to Andy to get permission to do it best possible of someone who know how to do it/can do it and want to do it/and have equipment to do it.

From my experience of syncing sound & video, the easiest way is using the soundtracks, then deleting the one you don't want!

Also, if the sound is from the desk, an audio CD would be a good bonus!!

One of the issues will be the mixed formats. I do have a camcorder (digital video tape) and my stills camera films Video in High Def. I would not want to watch the whole show through the viewfinder! Maybe , with a bit of planning, each of us could be responsible for a song or two?? I suppose what I'm saying is that I want a pint in one hand -not a camera!!

Eileen has always done a great job when it comes to photos and videos from what I've seen over many years but as always, who wants to be stuck behind a camera for over an hour?

I like your idea Shermy, if we knew who exactly was going to take a camera, each could be responsible for a certain amount of the filming and it could be collaborated.
