Andy's comments added - Yet Another Cancellation!! |
Lead | ||

Another English gig bites the dust. Piece Hall Halifax cancelled yesterday, just under 2 weeks before the gig. WHY?? We're getting fed up with all the
cancellations with no explanation.

They only played Halifax a couple of months ago. Maybe it wasn't selling very well because of that.

The Piece Hall themselves rang up on Tuesday morning and asked for all tickets to be returned for refunds. Also in response to "which other gigs were
cancelled" - remember the slippers tour the one before last???? Poor ticket sales should have nothing to do with anything. I remember a certain band who I
shall not name who actually played to an audience of 6!

He's still very popular though and I even had a drink in a bar named after him at the weekend.

fridafreaks wrote: Well, what a shambles. You are quite right Fridafreaks, it is indeed cancelled, but nobody either in the T-Rex management, nor Andy's agent (Nigel) were told about it! I only found out by ringing the Piece Hall direct. Sounds like there's going to be blood spilt on this one! BTW, you can't blame Sweet for that carpet slippers tour cancellation, that's entirely down to the organisers, Flying Music. Not Sweet, nor Rubettes nor Sailors fault on that. |

Stewart,
Both Nigel and I am appalled at the complete lack of professionalism surrounding this cancellation - this involves the local council, their sponsorship ie paying for the event, they apparently pulled out last week, nobody told us and until I speak to our contact, ie local promoter, I am not convinced that he did not have an inkling that this might happen. We try and perform in the UK as often as we can and then this kind of stuff happens - I am really quite unhappy about this, especially as we have turned down other work (nothing special) but in Europe and therefore all would have gone according to plan. I now have to cancel hotel, equipment etc and apparently that is of no consequence to the organisers, well from now on we have to be harder business-wise or we won't be playing very often in the UK unless it is somewhere such as the Robin. Bt the way we really enjoyed the Robin gig and I gather so did the fans. Anyway I do apologise to anyone who was going to the show but this cancellation was completely out of our control. Talk soon, Andy |

Thanks for that Stew and please pass on my thanks to Andy as well. I wasn't planning on going to the gig, but even so its a crap thing for the council to
do, but for Andy to come out (ooer) and apologise on the promoters etc's behalf is brilliant.
Cheers. Ewan. |

Unprofessional organizers. That's stupid of them. One should first inform a band in stead of starting to refund tix.

Unfortunate for the band and also sad for the people who were planning to go. On the positive side it was very nice to hear some comment from Andy on this
matter. I hope we will hear more from him even if it is an email to you Stewart.
Makes me feel in a way that the band (Andy in this case) give a rats backside about their fans rather than hearing about band issues 2nd and 3rd hand. Thumbs up for that. On the flip side I often feel there is not enough information given to the fans by the band themselves, about their tours gigs and future aspirations etc. I for one AM interested and I'm sure many others are too. Bruces blog is a great idea btw. Is there such a thing as bad publicity any more? |

I remember another gig that was cancelled that we had tickets for that was to be held at the Victoria Hall, Keighley a couple of years ago. We were given a
refund but that is not the point! There was no publicity for the gig and we were given the reason poor ticket sales again.
We would have gone to The Robin as it is one of our regular haunts, but when the date was changed we already had tickets for another event. As much as we would like we can't be in two places at one time! We have travelled to Germany to be exact Cologne & Prague to see The Sweet. Imagine our disappointment when Suzie Q did more than expected and we missed out on the Sweet because we had to leave after only three songs to catch the last train to Dusseldorf. Not prepared to travel the miles now and local concerts seem few and far between then get cancelled at the drop of a hat. PS you were right about the Sunderland gig but to spare their blushes they shall remain unnamed.
