You're probably thinking of Baba O'Reilly which has the same bleepy synth sound going into power chords.
Same with Wont Get Fooled Again.

The riff comparison posts were so much fun! Can anyone do Windy City vs Woman From Tokyo by DP? Someone once pointed this out to me but I'd never notice
myself

The most obvious one to me is Let Your Love Go by Bread, the chorus of 4th of July and this one are almost identical.

Windy City sounds like "Woman From Tokyo" by Deep Purple | #48 | ||
|
Ok, thanks for pointing that out. I was going to ask and just realized that someone else mentioned it above.
Sweet "Windy City" (1977) Deep Purple "Woman From Tokyo" (1973) From the Sweet song "Windy City": "Waitin' for the risin' sun to shine on windy city" Ok, the land of the rising sun is Japan. The windy city is Chicago. I have no idea what this is supposed to mean. But it is a cool song no matter what.

It doesn't actually say the "land" of the rising sun though. It just says "Waiting for the rising sun to shine on windy city" which to
me sounds like they are waiting for daybreak.

Was Blockbuster Sweets best selling record in the U.K?
Try Fox on the Run. |

panasonicq wrote: Well I don't know the actual numbers of records sold, but Blockbuster spent about four weeks at number 1, whereas Fox On The Run only reached number 2, and also only spent 10 weeks in the charts to Blockbusters 15, so I'd hazard a guess that Blocky sold more copies. |

Blockbuster was No.1 for 6 weeks but Fox on the Run was their biggest selling single.
You had to sell more in '75 to get to No1 but Andy will tell you "Fox" was the biggest out of all the singles. These days, you only need to sell a few hundred copies to be a chart single and a few downloads! The singles chart finished some years ago in my opinion. Not the same anymore. |

I stopped caring about charts in the 80-ies, when I found other ways to keep in touch with new music. (rock radioprograms, magazins, penpals, local metalheads)
Chartpositions can be faked by hugh recordcompanies.
But hey I discovered The Sweet through a TV chart in '72, so respect to charts, they did their work! |

Andy said "Fox was our biggest selling single", you can make what you will from that comment. U.K or worldwide?
It IS possible to out sell a No1 hit. You could sell double and not make the top 5. Depends on the time it was released. A No1 chart single now probably wouldn't even make the top 40 in the mid to late 70's. Cheers, Pawl. |
