Roger usually sang lead on at least one song on each Queen album and I always loved them. They had a heavier sound to them. Sheer Heart Attack and Fight From
The Inside are 2 of his best!!!!

Taylor is a screamer best suited to metal style. Can't compare Roger Meddows-Taylor with Paul Rodgers.

Well, Mr. Joyce your right with that first post that is.
Rogers voice live isn't (I think) that good and ceratinly not comparable with the voice of Paul. I think that Queen (or what's left) should have stopped right when Freddy died. Of course the other members are entitled to plat Queen tracks, but don't call the band Queen. But as you see here the lead singer isn't easy to replace. This is a topic we've been discussing several years here on this board concerning Sweet. There's only one band I can think of that "replaced" their singer succesfully and that's AC/DC. Twan

Sheer Heart Attack are sang fot Freddie and Roger Taylor , on a duet......
Rock It-Prime Jive is too duet from Roger and Freddie....in lead vocals.... In ALL carrear of Queen, Roger Taylor sang 9 musics alone and Brian May too sang 9 musics alone... May and Taylor sang 5 or 6 musics too in duet sang with Freddie.... |

I think you'll find that only 'Fight From The Inside ' lists Roger as Lead Vocal on News Of The World . The rest of his contributions are backing
vocals .

Yeah, but just listen to the song, it just doesn't sound like typical Freddie to me. And now that debatess has mentioned it, it does sound like a mixture
of Freddie and Roger together......

Maybe the odd line but certainly not a duet ( which I think is a silly term for rock music anyway ) Maybe twin lead vocals would be better ... like Brian and
Steve on Stairway To The Stars . But SHA is nothing like that .

Its difficult to tell who is singing what on the song, but I think that Freddie sings the first verse and Roger the second.
For me, Paul Rogers is very average when trying to take over the Freddie Mercury mantle, he was probably better off leaving the project well alone and keeping his legacy intact with his free and Bad Company and solo stuff. I'd still prefer him to be doing lead vocals than Roger though. Roger handled some songs of his own quite well, but for the main part he wasn't up to the rigours of being a front man by a long way. He's also needed for the falsetto backing vocals on many songs, even though they are pretty squeaky at times. BTW, did you know that both Paul Rogers any myself have one thing in common. We were both Ayresome Angels.
Cheers. Ewan. GET OUTA MY F***ING WAY! |
