No I do not agree at all. I think you are totally wrong to take a swipe at Joe Retta and Pete Lincoln in that way for several reasons.

First of all because Andy and Steve only did lead vocals themselves mainly when Brian either wasn't up to it (the making of Sweet Fanny Adams when Brians throat was kicked in) or he wasn't in the band (the last three albums). When he wasn't there Steve and Andy, and even Mick, shared the vocals on the albums and, one assumes, also at the gigs too, but none of them took up the mantle full time. For them to do that now wouldn't be quite right.

It was once quoted that Sweet were a band with four lead vocalists. All four had great voices, so it stands to reason that any band trying to do the same stuff, be it Brians or Steve's version, are going to need musicians who are capable behind the microphone as well, so why not have someone who is good enough to devote all their time to doing lead. Pete Lincoln is also the bass player in Andys band.

There's also the little matter of the fact that Steve always had his little one liners in the hits. He wouldn't stand out when he delivered them lines if he had to sing the rest of the song as well, so having Joe Retta or someone like him shouldering the vocals is 100% a good idea.

As for Andys vocal contributions on the songs, who is going to match his screaming high pitch backing vocals on songs like Live For Today and Set Me Free and Fox On The Run if he also has the burden of singing the lead as well?

Sweet in their heyday had probably the best harmony vocals that any band ever had, so it stands to reason that a band trying to play their stuff now would also need to have good harmonies as well, and I reckon that both bands do that job pretty well. Leave them alone.
