I have been a Sweet Fan since the very early days my interest in them started around the release of Co Co
And I have collected for to many years to remember
I have researched the whole Sweet phenomenon with great interest it is fair to say I thought I
pretty much knew most things about the sweet and it's members
I have been very privileged to have both Andy and Mick as very close friends and spent many
hours with both of them hearing various stories about the band and been able to ask as
many questions that I wanted to
At the moment I am helping with two projects to do with the band
I was talking on the phone to a non Sweet fan (he is working for a record who are compiling
a new release due out in April) about music in general. His job is as an archivist for various
record companies this involves listening to Master tapes making sure that they are the
correct version etc and making compilations for release
we got on to the subject of various things the sweet did prior to signing with RCA
He said that about four years ago he had put together a Bubblegum
collection for Castle whilst he was going through the tracks he heard
a song that he thought sounded like Brian which was released in late 1969.
He was saying how distinctive Brian's voice was i went through all
the usual ones then he dropped the bombshell no not the Sweet
Here is the information he gave me and below is an MP3 of the track i
would like all of your input as to what you think.
I would like to say a big thank you
to David wells for bringing this to my attention
'I'm Gonna Love You' was credited to Jamie & the Sweetcorn
Released :December 1969/January 1970
Record Label: Pye
Catalogue Number: Pye 7N 17870.
The B-side has no male vocals, nor does another single that was
issued solely as the Sweetcorn, who were a female vocal group in the
style of the Paper Dolls.
Clearly 'Jamie', whoever he was, was a hired hand session singer
rather than a group member.
The track was included on a CD I put together for Sanctuary (who
owned the Pye back catalogue) in 2004 called 'Round The Gum Tree: The
British Bubblegum Explosion', catalogue number Castle CMRCD 906
Please please give me your opinions....
